San Francisco Running Company: Events and Ongoing Engagement

The Goal

The San Francisco Running Company has leveraged Events on Strava to drive participation, engagement, and visits to their online shop.

Established in 2013, the San Francisco Running Company (SFRC) is so much more than a retail space: it is a 'community in motion'. Since joining Strava, the SFRC have established a thriving community motivated by regular events for runners of all abilities.

Because of the highly engaged nature of the SFRC Group - and indeed Strava Groups in general on the platform - the organised Events are well attended and a pivot point for activating the community. In addition, regular news and updates on the SFRC Strava Club help to keep members engaged whether or not they can attend all the Events.

Strava has the best captive audience of runners. People are there because they are being active. It’s who we want to reach, and we don’t have to select any filters. We use our Strava club every week.Brett Rivers, SFRC Founder

As well as providing a positive community spirit, the SFRC Events organised through Strava also help drive footfall into the retail space. Many of the events start or finish from the retail area, bringing engaged runners into the SFRC space. Whether or not those runners choose to purchase from SFRC is down to the individual, however uniting that community in this space raises awareness of the Company and its products.

The San Francisco Running Company is a superb example of fostering community engagement through Events organised on Strava. By building a strong, active community, they have helped to raise awareness of their core business amongst a highly motivated group of athletes.
