Starting Your Community on Strava

Step 1

Create Your Strava Club

Customize your Club with a logo or photo, cover image and description.

How to Start a Club on Strava

Starting a Club on Strava is quick, easy and free! Simply follow the steps below and your Strava Club will be live in just a few minutes.Anyone with a Strava profile can launch a Strava Club. To get started it's as simple as 1-2-3:

Starting your Club

  1. Create your new Club: Go to strava.com/clubs and click on 'Create a Club' (in the top right-hand corner of the page).

  2. Tell people about your Club: You will need to give your Club a Title, Location and Description, but can also add website links, information about activities, and create a Vanity URL.

  3. Upload a Profile Photo and Cover Image: Uploading Profile and Cover photos are a chance to 'colour in' your club, showing people your logo and images from your events. (Pro tip: for the best results make sure the dimensions of your profile photo are 248 px x 248px, and of your cover photo 1180px x 579px).

  4. Choose if members can post to your Club (or not). You can restrict posts to admins only, or open the Club up to members for a community-driven experience. Both options can be highly effective - depending on your goals.

Step 2

Start Posting

Now let the fun begin – start the conversation with your first post.

How to Create Engaging Club Posts on Strava

Writing a Strava post is very simple. There are three parts to a post and we would recommend you use all of them to increase engagement:

  1. The title: Make sure this isn't too long (or short)

  2. The description: This is where you post the key information for your community. Note: Strava does not have word counts or limits on Strava posts so you can write as much as you need.

  3. Add photographs or activities to the post: This is optional but Strava posts with photos or activities attached receive significantly more engagement. If you're unsure about how to attach an activity to a post there's more information here.

There is no maximum or minimum volume for posting content on Strava, but we would recommend posting between two and four times per week to ensure your community stays engaged with the platform.

Step 3

Grow Your Community

Cross-promote your Club on other platforms and invite your community to join.

How to Grow Your Strava Club

Once you have created your Strava Club, the next thing to do is grow it. There are several ways that Clubs maximize their audience reach. Below are some of the key growth tactics Strava Clubs employ.

Consistent posting is the key

Strava Club members who are engaged by a club are more likely to share it with their friends. Posting two- to four times per week is a great way to engage your members.

Share events

Use your Club to create and schedule events for your community. Include an event description, date, location and route (if applicable).

Use your members to drive your visibility

Your Club’s members can drive visibility by tagging your Club in their activity and post descriptions. When people join your Club, their followers will see that displayed in their feed, with a call-to-action to join.

Promote your Club on other channels

Strava has integrations with other major social networks to allow you to share your active journey with a broader audience and help grow your following.

Step 4

Foster Member Connections

Get your Club members talking to each other through awesome content and IRL events.

How to Share and Reshare Activities

Sharing and resharing activities is a great way to motivate people, celebrate your community, and grow your followers.

Clubs and Groups around the world use sharing and resharing to highlight pros and influential creators, tell the stories of their community, and create realtime connections. There are a variety of ways that you can share content both to your Strava Club and to other social networks.
